As Kent’s first British Rowing Coastal Sculling Academy, we’re creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to discover the excitement of coastal rowing. From first-time juniors and community courses to those aiming for national pathways, our goal is to combine top-level coaching with an inclusive, welcoming environment. With Beach Sprints making its Olympic debut at Los Angeles 2028, we are proud to provide a space where complete beginners can take their first strokes, and ambitious athletes can set their sights on the sport’s highest stage. Rooted in Folkestone’s coastal heritage, we’re building a place where rowers can grow in confidence, skill, and ambition — together.

Get in the boat which is held in the water by 2 boathandlers
Row out and slalom around the buoys until you reach the buoy at the top of the course. Then, make a 180-degree turn & row 250m straight back.

Bow seat - Get out of your boat when the water is shallow enough, start your run
Run up the sand (10-50m depending on tide) touch the button on the finish line

Folkestone Sculling Academy is running an introductory course designed to get you out on the water and experiencing the thrill of rowing for the first time. Whether you’re looking for a new challenge, a way to keep fit, or just want to try something different, this is the perfect place to start. No experience needed — just bring enthusiasm and a sense of adventure!
At Folkestone Sculling Academy, we love welcoming other rowing clubs to the coast. We offer ongoing partnerships where your rowers can come and experience Beach Sprints and offshore rowing with our boats, facilities, and coaching on hand. Whether you’d like to give your crews a fun new challenge, build coastal skills, or help athletes explore the exciting new Olympic pathway, we can shape something that works for your club.
Drop us your details and let’s chat about how we can make coastal rowing part of your club’s journey.
